Flower Fairy Field Notes

The Lupine Highway Heist

May 2025

After my previous lupine enchantment, I remembered that my grandma told me my favourite flower as a child was lupines. She said I would point them out everytime we drove by them. I don’t recall that but I like the sounds of it.

I remember being fond of the tiny purple grape hyacinths that grew wildly in the grass. A very similar flower. The grape hyacinths are like a miniature version of the purple lupines. I am still quite fond of the grape hyacinths.

I thought it seemed kind of symbolic that the lupines have been enchanting me as of late and that I may have been enchanted by them as a child as well. Perhaps the flowers, and natural phenomena in general, are portals to the inner child.

I ended up getting brave and picking some lupines on the side of the highway to take home. I felt like I was doing something really illegal and that the flower police were going to come after me.

I felt bad picking the flowers and taking them from their natural habitat. I justifed it to myself by saying they will be better off living at my house then on the side of the highway amongst a bunch of broom bush. The overthinking process is not lost on me.

I liked haivng the lupines in the car with me on the drive home, and it felt nice bringing them into the house. They offered a gentle companionship.

I enjoyed witnessing their decaying process as they slowly shed their petals over several weeks. It created altars of beauty around the house. Since I moved the vases around a few times, the petals ended up scattered around in little shrine piles.

Usually petals dropping everywhere would bother me, but I liked these ones making a mess of beauty all over the place.

I also apprehensively picked up this Course in Miracles cassette, in an attempt to reconnect, but it seems I am back to being allergic to it. It acted briefly as an object in the flower shrine, which I glared at every time I walked by, and then it was banished to the closet.
